I’ve taught IGCSE Chemistry for ten years and have spent much of that time helping students get comfortable with the mathematical side of the subject. Moles, reacting masses and concentrations are topics I particularly enjoy because there’s a clear method behind them. I usually model one calculation carefully, then give students a similar problem to tackle alone. Past papers become a regular part of lessons as exams approach.

Hi! I came into Chemistry tutoring through chemical engineering and have been teaching IGCSE students for five years. Energetics and rates are probably my favourite topics because they’re easy to connect to things happening in everyday life. I draw plenty of diagrams and don’t mind going over an explanation in a completely different way if the first one doesn’t land. We also do short exam questions throughout the lesson rather than saving them all until the end.

My background is in pharmaceutical science, where understanding organic chemistry properly was essential. I’ve now spent six years tutoring IGCSE Chemistry and particularly enjoy introducing students to hydrocarbons and reaction pathways. I’m quite methodical when marking written work, especially equations and calculations. If marks are being lost repeatedly, we identify the exact reason and practise that skill separately before returning to a full paper.

Before moving into education, I worked in laboratory testing, so practical chemistry is something I naturally bring into my lessons. I’ve taught IGCSE students for eight years, with a particular interest in acids, bases and analytical techniques. Rather than memorising practical methods word for word, students learn why each stage is carried out. That makes unfamiliar experimental questions much easier to handle when they appear on an exam paper.

I’m a qualified science teacher with more than twelve years of classroom experience and now tutor IGCSE Chemistry one-to-one as well. Bonding is one of my favourite areas to teach because a good diagram can clear up several misunderstandings at once. My sessions are structured but not lecture-heavy. I ask questions constantly, use mini problems to check understanding and spend the final part of most sessions applying the topic to exam-style questions.

Materials science was my route into Chemistry, and it still shapes the examples I use when teaching. I’ve worked with IGCSE students for four years and particularly like atomic structure, bonding and properties of materials. I’m less interested in students memorising isolated statements than understanding what causes a particular property. Once the reasoning is secure, we look at how to express the same idea precisely enough for the mark scheme.
